Assessing the requirements for resilient small-scale fisheries (SSF) in Bangladesh coastal waters

Client: WorldFish Center
Project Dates: November 2007 - November 2007

Project objectives:
The Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock (MoFL) agreed a need for to develop a local code of conduct for responsible coastal fisheries in Bangladesh as a follow up of the FAO/UN Code of conduct (CCRF). This task was complicated by the lack of up-to-date scientific information and divided expert opinion. it was therefore decided to prepare a local code of conduct based on the precautionary approach. In response to a request by MoFL, the WorldFish Center funded this study.

Poseidon services provided:
A Poseidon director was the team leader for this one month study. The study was mainly desk-based, through a review and analysis of the available secondary information and analysis of the unitized primary trawl sector data and other available information. The resulting report provided a baseline status report, and guidance on integrating the ecosystem approach to fisheries management into the forthcoming sector plan.
