Global Transparency Review

Client: GFW
Project Dates:

Project objectives:
In recent years countries and fisheries management organisations have been providing greater transparency on their fisheries data. These open data initiatives are however not always evident to potential users and difficult to find in the organisations websites. This project aimed to complete a global review on the status of transparency in fisheries. The outcome set a baseline for future monitoring of transparency efforts and allowed organisations like Global Fishing Watch (GFW) to help champion these initiatives.

Poseidon services provided:
Poseidon completed a review of instances where countries or RFMOs are publicly sharing the following data types:

    • Vessel tracking data
    • Vessel license lists
    • Registration data
    • Authorisation data
    • Compliance Data
    • FOC / flagged out vessel lists
    • Beneficial ownership
