Project objectives:
The Sustainable Indian Ocean Tuna Initiative (SIOTI) Fisheries Improvement Project (FIP) intends to assist the purse seine fleets supplying Thai Union in the Seychelles and Princes Tuna in Mauritius to ensure that they are operating on a sustainable basis. This five year FIP, which is intended to lead to certification under the MSC standard for responsible fisheries, addresses a number of issues such as developing a harvest strategy and control rules, managing silky shark bycatch and managing FAD levels and operations in a sustainable manner.
Poseidon services provided:
Poseidon, having conducted the initial pre-assessment, is advising the FIP on its implementation, including conducting the six-monthly scoring against the original FIP benchmarks.
