Technical support to the FAO regional office in Bangkok on tsunami rehabilitation issues

Project objectives:
In December 2004 a tsunami tidal wave swept across the Indian Ocean, affecting the coasts of the Bay of Bengal and East Africa. The tsunami devastated coastal communities across the region. Technical advice and support on tsunami rehabilitation was provided to fisheries staff in the regional office of FAO.
Poseidon services provided:
Following on from short-term assistance to the FAO regional office in Bangkok in the immediate aftermath of the tsunami, Poseidon provided a livelihoods expert to assist with rehabilitation activities in all tsunami affected countries. Support was provided on data collection and dissemination, needs assessments, development of strategic frameworks for rehabilitation and specification of appropriate projects and activities.
